Tea Parties
I still remember my very first tea party. I was about five years old, and it was the first time I was allowed to stay up for New Year's Eve. That was the night my mother gave me my great-grandmother's doll-sized china tea set, and I drank iced tea out of the cups that I poured for my dolls and stuffed animals.
On another occasion, a schoolmate of mine had a tea party for her birthday party. We were to wear our "Sunday Best" and we decorated hats for the occasion as a party activity.
Little girls and tea parties go back decades, if not longer. If you had a tea party when you were younger, I'd love to hear your story!

Congratulations on being selected as a typepad site to mention! This is how I found my way here.
I'd love to share a tea party story. My grade school girlfriends and I decided that when we were ready to leave the 6th grade...which back in the old days was the last year of grade school...we would have a tea party. Our thinking that this would be the last 'little girl' party before going into the 'oh so grownup' Jr High School world.
We all wore our best, fancy dress up clothes (mothers and grandmothers fancy dresses, hats and shoes) and had a tea party with a lovely sterling silver tea set and all the accoutrements.
Wonderful memory, thanks for bringing it back!

Aside from all that I am learning about tea from your blog (I am especially interested in the health benefits) I loved reading about the human social side of tea. Your tea party story was a great ditty to wake this morning (sorry, with my usual cup of ... shhh ... coffee).
Perhaps this is an estrogen-driven rite of passage because I too, remember my own childhood tea parties. The first invitees were not siblings but my beloved stuff animal collections and one doll named Tony after my uncle. All in attendance dressed for the occassion, of course.
If tea helps bring us to a place of comfort and calm, know that reading your latest blog story does, too!
What a great site.
