Tea V: Lost

For those who are fans of the television show "Lost," last night's episode finally revealed the identity of the one-eyed man seen in "The Cost of Living."

For those who have not yet seen the episode, I won't spoil it, but there is one important fact that I must share. When serving iced tea to two other characters, "Patchy" mentions that he grew his own tea. Now, this I have to admire. One can only assume that if the Dharma Initiative provided the tea, it would be of inferior, Lipton-esque quality, and most likely stale by this time.  Dissatisfied, Patchy acquired quality tea the only way he could: he grew it himself!

This is in fact quite feasible on the Island, as some varieties of tea flourish in tropical climates. The ideal temperature for growing tea is fifty to eighty degrees fahrenheit, and the plant does best in regions that receive eighty to ninety inches of rainfall a year at elevations from one thousand to seven thousand feet above sea level.  Certainly there are regions of the Island that fit this description.

However, one must marvel at the amount of work Patchy had to perform for those three glasses of iced tea.

After reading about some of the health benefits of tea on your blog and article links I tripped off to our local Von's to stock up. I was disappointed. Yes, they had a smashing variety of teas but I was overwhelmed by the choices and once there, could not remember which ones to get. So I went home with a bag of coffee, stuck in a rut, once again.

Can you please suggest some specific tea brands and reliable sources to get peppermint tea (which I have not found in any stores here).

It would be wonderful if you could put together a "Shopping List" for those of use tea-novices trying to figure out what to get for what purpose. I am particularly interested in teas that have positive metabolic impact.

Thanks so much!

Lahle

That's a great idea! I'll definitely do that in a near-future post!
